Stock Transfers
An effective tool to support Casa's mission is to donate appreciated stock that has been held for over a year in a taxable account. In addition to the benefit to Casa, you can avoid paying long term capital gains tax and are potentially able to declare a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the securities donated. As with all tax related topics, Casa recommends you consult with your professional tax advisor to determine how much your household can donate and fully utilize as a charitable deduction for tax purposes.
To enable stock donations, Casa has partnered with a fellow 501(c)(3) organization called every.org. Every.org is an online platform with the specific mission of helping small charitable organizations with limited staff and budget by handling all the back end administrative tasks of donation receipt generation and IRS reporting. They have processed roughly 250,000 individual donations totally over $200 million to support more than 8,400 nonprofits. The full market value of the securities you donate will be transferred to Casa within a few business days of your donation to every.org.
Casa has a dedicated profile page established on this platform that will initiate the process and inform you about all the information you will need to provide your brokerage firm.
